Orange County, FL - Motorcyclist Killed in Crash near Colonial Drive

Orange County, FL (January 23, 2021) - A 30-year-old motorcyclist is dead following a crash that happened in Orange County on Friday, January 22nd. The crash took place around 6:45 p.m.. on Colonial Drive, near Econlockhatchee Trail.

The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the accident scene. According to troopers, an SUV and a sedan were both traveling eastbound on Colonial while the motorcycle was traveling westbound. For unknown reasons, the SUV struck a barrier wall and then hit the right side of the sedan causing both vehicles to veer into the westbound lanes of the roadway. The front of the SUV then struck the motorcycle, ejecting both occupants. The driver of the motorcycle died after being taken to a local hospital and there is no word on the passenger's condition at this time. No additional injuries were reported and the identities of those involved are not available at this time.

There is no further information regarding the crash.

Motorcycle crashes in Florida account for about 15 to 20 percent of all fatal traffic accidents in our state. This is an astonishing number when considering that motorcycles make up only about 3% of all registered motor vehicles. Obviously, the odds of being injured or killed in a Florida motorcycle accident are very high. Motorcycles offer little protection from the force and impact of a crash and riders should always take proper safety precautions to avoid increasing their risk of a devastating accident. In many cases, however, the crash is not the fault of the motorcyclist and is unavoidable due to the actions of a negligent third party.

We would like to offer our most sincere condolences to the family who lost their loved one in this Orange County motorcycle accident.
