Florida experiences thousands of bicycle accidents every year. In 2018, there were 6,568 reported Florida bicycle crashes and 145 fatalities as a result of those crashes. For the first quarter of 2019, the state reported 1,695 crashes, 1588 injuries, and 40 fatalities. The ratio of injuries to crashes is quite high for bicyclists due to the fact that bicycles offer little protection from the impact of the collision. Riders involved in accidents with cars and other large vehicles are almost certain to end up in the hospital as a result of the collision.
