Sarasota County, FL (February 2, 2021) - Two young children were critically injured in a crash that took place on Sunday, January 31st in Sarasota County. The collision happened on River Road near the intersection with Winchester Boulevard.

The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the accident scene. According to troopers, a 40-year-old man was driving an SUV southbound on River Road. At the same time, a 54-year-old woman was driving a pickup truck northbound on River Road. The 40-year-old man attempted to turn left onto Winchester but turned into the path of the 54-year-old woman's vehicle. The two cars collided. The 40-year-old driver and a 54-year-old passenger in the first car were seriously hurt while two children in the vehicle sustained critical injuries. The driver of the pickup and a 56-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries. 

There is no word on potential charges at this time. An investigation is ongoing.
