Sumter County, FL (February 10, 2021) - One person is dead and another seriously hurt after a head-on crash in Sumter County on Tuesday. The accident occurred at 2:25 p.m. on State Road 471 near County Road 788.

The Florida Highway Patrol was called to the scene of the crash. According to a report from troopers, a 53-year-old man from McAlpin was driving a pickup truck southbound on SR 471 when he attempted to pass traffic in front of him. As he was trying to pass, his vehicle struck a pickup truck that was traveling in the opposite direction. The driver of the pickup, a 72-year-old man from Zolfo Springs, died in the crash. The man's passenger, a 59-year-old man, suffered serious injuries. The man from McAlpin sustained critical injuries. No one involved has been identified.

There is no additional information available at this time. An investigation is ongoing.
