Holiday, FL (February 14, 2021) - A woman is dead and a man is facing charges after a deadly crash in Holiday on Saturday morning. The crash took place around 3:00 a.m. on Holiday Lake Drive near the intersection with Orangeview Lane.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 22-year-old Michael Aquila was driving an SUV when his vehicle left the road and overturned before crashing into a tree and coming to rest. Aquila's passenger, a 22-year-old woman, died in the crash. Aquila suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The victim's identity has not been released at this time. 

Following an investigation, police charged Aquila with DUI manslaughter. There were no other vehicles involved or injuries reported. No additional details are available.

Crashes involving drugs and alcohol are, unfortunately, quite common in Florida. According to more recent statistics, there are more than 5,000 car accidents each year involving impaired drivers. In total, more than 400 people are killed annually by these accidents. A Florida impaired driving crash can endanger innocent victims and can result in the sudden and devastating loss of a loved one.
