Hendry County, FL (February 14, 2021) - An 18-year-old man is dead following a crash in Hendry County on Saturday, February 13th. The incident took place on Art Lawrence Road at the intersection with County Road 80A in Clewiston.

The Florida Highway Patrol was called to the crash scene shortly after the accident occurred. According to troopers, the man was trying to cross the road when he was hit by an SUV driven by a 55-year-old female. The man, who was not identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman fled the crash site shortly after the accident occurred. She was later found at her home by officers. 

There is no additional information available at this time. Charges are pending the outcome of an investigation.

Hit-and-run crashes continue to pose major problems in Florida. In 2019, more than 100,000 hit-and-run accidents were reported and hit-and-run collisions were responsible for about 20% of all reported Florida car accidents. Although drivers are legally required to remain at the accident scene, many choose to flee in an effort to avoid taking responsibility for a serious crash.
