Polk County, FL - One Killed in Thursday Crash Involving Wrong-Way Driver

Polk County, FL (February 20, 2021) - The Polk County Sheriff's Office responded to a deadly crash that happened on Thursday, February 18th. The crash occurred just before 9:00 p.m. on U.S. Highway 27 near Harvard Avenue.

According to deputies, 75-year-old Everett Lucas was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of U.S. 27 when he collided head-on with a vehicle driven by 54-year-old Wendell Green. When investigators and rescue crews arrived, they pronounced Green dead at the accident scene. There is no word on whether Lucas sustained any injuries in the collision. The cause of the crash is unknown and subject to further investigation. There is no word on whether any charges are expected.
