Gainesville, FL (February 25, 2021) - A 3-year-old from Gainesville died after being hit by a truck on Wednesday, February 24th. The crash took place on NE 15th Street, just west of Ironwood Golf Club and Gainesville Regional Airport.

According to the Gainesville Police Department, the child rolled a scooter into the street when they were hit by a truck. The child was rushed to UF Health Shands but later succumbed to their injuries. No one else was hurt in the crash and the driver of the truck was not immediately identified. 

The crash remains under investigation at this time. There is no word on whether any charges are expected to be filed and no further information is available.

No one ever expects to be involved in a crash when they get into a vehicle. The reality, however, is that a reportable car accident in Florida takes place about once every 90 seconds. These numbers place the Sunshine State at or near the top of all national statistics when it comes to crashes, making Florida one of the most dangerous states in the nation. Motorists on our roadways should always exercise the greatest level of caution and safety in order to avoid or lower their risks of being involved in a serious accident.
