Hollywood, FL (January 9, 2021) - A hit-and-run crash left a moped rider dead in Hollywood early Friday morning. The accident happened around 2:30 a.m. on State Road 7 near Arthur Street.

According to investigators, the moped rider was traveling on State Road 7 when he was hit by a car. The rider died at the accident scene. The driver of the car fled the scene before police could arrive. Officials are still looking for the vehicle, which is believed to have heavy damage to its front-end. The identity of the deceased victim has not been disclosed at this time.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact the Hollywood Police Department at 954-764-4357. No additional details are available at this time.

Moped accidents in Florida are not as common as crashes involving other types of vehicles. However, they do occur and almost always result in injuries and sometimes worse. In 2019, more than 800 moped crashes were reported on Florida's roadways. Approximately 85% of these accidents resulted in injuries and about 30 riders tragically lost their lives.
