Polk County, FL - Winter Haven High School Student Injured in Crash near Bus Stop

Polk County, FL (January 7, 2021) - A student at Winter Haven High School suffered injuries after being struck near her bus stop on Thursday morning. The accident occurred around 7:00 a.m. on Avenue G. NW near 22nd Street NW.

The Winter Haven Police Department responded to the accident scene, along with the Polk County Sheriff's Office. According to a report, the 16-year-old girl was walking near her bus stop when she was hit by a car. The girl suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a local hospital. At this time, her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening and she is expected to recover. There is no word on the events leading up to the crash although the driver remained at the accident scene and spoke with authorities.

An investigation is ongoing at this time. There is no additional information available.

According to statistics published by NHTSA, there is a reportable car accident in Florida about once every 90 seconds. Many Florida crashes involve pedestrians and other vulnerable victims who are very likely to be seriously hurt when they are involved in accidents.
