Lake Wales, FL (October 1, 2020) - A 78-year-old woman was killed in a three-car crash in Lake Wales on Wednesday, September 30th. The crash happened on Boy Scout Road.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, an 84-year-old man was driving southbound on Boy Scout Road in a 1997 Nissan pickup truck. As the truck crossed the intersection, it entered the path of a 2006 Honda Accord. The two cars collided, causing the Nissan to collide with a third vehicle, a 2019 Dodge Ram. A passenger in the Nissan, 78-year-old Anita Farms, was killed in the crash. The Honda driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at Lake Wales Medical Center. No one else was injured as a result of the accident. 

An investigation into the accident is ongoing at this time. No additional information has been released.

There are about 3,000 fatal car accidents in Florida each year. The number of deadly crashes has been on the rise in recent years, along with the total number of accidents. This can be attributable to more drivers being on the roadway and an increase in the number of negligent drivers.
