Sumter County, FL - One Killed Following Head-On Crash Along State Road 471

Sumter County, FL (September 28, 2020) - Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol are investigating following a head-on collision in Sumter County. The crash took place on Sunday, September 27th around 11:00 p.m.

Officials responded to the scene near the intersection with State Road 50. According to police, a 27-year-old man from Tampa was driving an SUV northbound on SR 471 as a tractor-trailer was heading south. The male operator of the SUV was forced to pass another vehicle and collided head-on with the semi-truck. The SUV rolled over and came to rest on its side. The driver of the SUV died at the scene while the truck driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries. No one involved in the accident has been identified at this time.
