Englewood East, FL (September 28, 2020) - A 65-year-old motorcyclist from Port Charlotte was killed in a crash on Oceanspray Boulevard Sunday. The accident happened around 3:00 p.m. near the intersection with McCall Road.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a sedan was traveling on McCall when it attempted to make a right turn onto Oceanspray. The sedan turned directly into the path of the motorcycle, causing a collision. The 65-year-old male motorcyclist, along with his 29-year-old female passenger, were thrown from the bike. The male died as a result of injuries suffered in the crash while the female suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. The sedan driver, a 52-year-old man from Rotunda West, was transported with serious injuries.

Troopers are still investigating the crash. There is no word on whether charges are expected to be filed at this time. No additional details are available.

It is not uncommon to see many people riding motorcycles throughout our state. With year-round temperate weather, a motorcycle is a popular choice for transportation as well. Motorcycles account for about 5% of all registered motor vehicles in Florida. They also account for about 15% of all traffic fatalities. There is no way to understate the dangers that accompany riding a motorcycle. Riders must always be vigilant and aware of their surroundings.

Our condolences go out to the victim's family after the fatal motorcycle crash in Englewood East.
