Hillsborough County, FL - Man Killed, Woman Hurt in Crash on U.S. 92

Hillsborough County, FL (September 21, 2020) - A man was killed and a woman was hurt following a DUI crash in Hillsborough County on Saturday, September 19th. The crash was reported at approximately 11:45 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 92 and McIntosh Road.

Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol were among the first to arrive on the scene. According to a report, 21-year-old Teodoro J. Avellaneda was driving a pickup truck on McIntosh Road when he failed to stop for a red light. As he proceeded into the intersection, his truck collided with a sedan that was traveling eastbound on U.S. 92. The driver of the sedan, a 29-year-old man from Seffner, was killed in this crash. His passenger, a 28-year-old woman from Plant City was not hurt, and Avellaneda was also uninjured in the collision. Following an investigation, Avellaneda was charged with DUI manslaughter.

There is no additional information available at this time. 

Last year in Florida, more than 3,000 people tragically lost their lives in car accidents across our state. This number represents about eight fatal accidents per day. Each Florida car accident must be carefully investigated so that authorities can determine who should be held responsible.
