Wildwood, FL (October 17, 2020) - A girl was killed and her mother was seriously injured following a crash on I-75 in Sumter County on Friday, October 16th. The crash was reported around 8:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-75 near Mile Marker 319.

The Florida Highway Patrol was among the first agencies to respond to the crash scene. According to troopers, a 30-year-old man was driving a sedan on I-75 when he slowed his speed for traffic ahead of him. A 55-year-old Sarasota man was driving his vehicle directly behind. The 55-year-old man failed to slow down and collided with the rear of the sedan. The sedan was pushed into a guardrail, where it then overturned and ejected the 30-year-old driver. The driver sustained minor injuries, however, a 10-year-old female passenger in his vehicle was killed in the crash. The girl's mother, a 40-year-old, suffered serious injuries. No one involved in the accident has been identified at this time.

The crash caused the roadway to be closed for several hours while police investigated. No further details are available.
