New Smyrna Beach, FL - One Killed, One Seriously Hurt in Wrong-Way Crash on State Road 44

New Smyrna Beach, FL (September 13, 2020) - One man was killed and another was hurt in a wrong-way crash that took place in New Smyrna Beach just after midnight on Sunday. The collision occurred around 12:40 a.m. on State Road 44 near Taganana Drive.

According to a report from the scene, the deceased victim was traveling westbound in a sedan when he collided head-on with an eastbound vehicle. The man, identified only as a 39-year-old from Sanford, died at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle, a 39-year-old man from Pompano Beach, sustained serious injuries in the crash. The man from Sanford has not been identified by authorities. There is no information on the cause of the crash at this time.

An investigation into the accident remains ongoing by the Florida Highway Patrol. No further details are available.

Fatal car accidents are reported in Florida about once every three hours. Head-on crashes are among the most dangerous and destructive types of accidents that we see on our roadways.
