Lakewood Ranch, FL - Pedestrian Hospitalized Following Crash on Eagles Watch Way

Lakewood Ranch, FL (October 18, 2020) - A 78-year-old pedestrian was hit by a car in Lakewood Ranch on Saturday, October 17th. The incident took place around 9:10 a.m. at the intersection of Eagles Watch Way and Masters Avenue in the Country Club Village area.

The Florida Highway Patrol was called to the scene of the incident. Troopers say that an 80-year-old man from Lakewood Ranch was traveling on Eagles Watch Way when he struck the pedestrian in the roadway. The pedestrian was seriously hurt and was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital where he was listed in critical condition. There were no other injuries reported. The identity of the pedestrian is not available at this time.

Police are investigating the crash. There is no word on whether charges are expected to be filed and no additional information is available. 

According to statistics, nearly 75% of all Florida pedestrian accidents require the victim to go to the emergency room. Nearly 25% of all traffic deaths in our state are pedestrian-related fatalities, with more than 500 pedestrians killed each year on average. These numbers illustrate the dangers to which pedestrians are exposed to on our roadways. Drivers must always remember to keep a lookout for pedestrians in the roadway and should always pay attention to their surroundings in order to avoid a potentially dangerous crash.
