Ocala, FL (October 20, 2020) - Police in Ocala have released the name of a man who was killed in a pedestrian collision last Friday. The crash took place around 9:30 p.m. on North Magnolia Avenue near Northwest 20th Street.
According to officials, 51-year-old Christopher Stride was crossing North Magnolia from north to south when he was hit by a Ford F-150 pickup truck that was traveling westbound. Stride was rushed to Ocala Regional Medical Center after the crash where he was later pronounced dead. The female driver of the F-150 was not injured in the crash and has not been identified. Police say that the roadway was poorly lit at the time of the accident.
There is no word on potential charges at this time. An investigation is ongoing.
Florida ranks near the top of national statistics when it comes to pedestrian crashes and deaths. In fact, there are about two fatal pedestrian crashes in Florida each day. Well over half of all Florida pedestrian accidents result in injury or death due to the fact that pedestrians have very little protection in the event of an accident. This means that drivers must always keep a lookout for pedestrians on the roadway, especially at night or in the early morning hours.
We wish to extend our most sincere condolences to the family of Christopher Stride following this pedestrian crash in Ocala.
