Volusia County, FL (September 6, 2020) - A pedestrian was killed in a crash that took place on State Road A1A in Volusia County. The crash was reported on Friday, September 4th.
According to officials, the pedestrian was walking westbound along the east shoulder of the roadway and attempting to cross the road when they were hit by a car that was traveling northbound. The pedestrian was rushed to a local hospital and later pronounced dead. There were no other injuries reported as a result of the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol still investigating at this time. There is no word on whether any charges are expected.
Pedestrian accidents claim the lives of about 700 people in Florida each year. Statistics show that about 80% of all Florida pedestrian accidents result in some type of injury to the victim. Many of these injuries will be severe and life-threatening as pedestrians are among the most vulnerable crash victims.
