Citrus County, FL - Woman Killed in Car Accident on County Road 491

Citrus County, FL (September 5, 2020) - A woman from Inverness died following a two-car crash in Citrus County on Thursday, September 3rd. The crash took place around 2:45 p.m. on County Road 491 near the intersection with County Road 480.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 61-year-old woman was traveling eastbound on CR 480 near the intersection with CR 491. At the same time, an 83-year-old man and his 79-year-old passenger were traveling northbound on CR 491. For unknown reasons, the two cars collided with one another at the intersection. The 61-year-old woman was taken to a local hospital where she died as a result of her injuries. The 83-year-old man was hospitalized with serious injuries while the 79-year-old woman was treated for minor injuries.

FHP has not released the names of those involved at this time. An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.

Florida is one of the most dangerous states in the nation for motorists. According to current statistics, a fatal car accident in Florida is reported about once every three hours. In 2019, more than 3,000 people were tragically killed when they were involved in car accidents in our state. Many of these victims were simply going about their business when they, unfortunately, came into contact with a negligent driver.
