Leesburg, FL (September 1, 2020) - A 54-year-old man was killed in a pedestrian accident that took place in Leesburg on Monday, August 31st. The crash took place around 10:00 p.m. on Highway 27 near Griffin Road.

According to investigators, the man tried to cross US 27 when he was hit by a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by 18-year-old Patrick Holmes. The man, who was not identified, was rushed to UF Health Leesburg where he later succumbed to his injuries. The Leesburg Police Department is investigating the accident at this time and there is no word on whether charges are expected.

On average, there are approximately two fatal pedestrian accidents in Florida every day. Sadly, more than 500 people are killed every year in pedestrian accidents across our state. Many of these victims are killed when they come into contact with negligent or reckless drivers.
