Merritt Island, FL (October 26, 2020) - A 39-year-old man was killed in an incident that took place on State Road 520 in Merritt Island on Sunday. The collision happened around 8:35 p.m. near the intersection with West King Street.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the man had stepped out of his truck to retrieve debris that had fallen into the roadway. While on the road, he was hit by a van driven by a 51-year-old woman from Cocoa Beach. The van was traveling eastbound at the time of the crash. The man, who has not been identified, died at the scene. There were no additional injuries reported as a result of the crash.
An investigation into the accident remains ongoing. There are no additional details available.
Fatal accidents in Florida are reported about eight times each day. In 2019, more than 3,000 people were tragically killed in crashes that took place in our state. Many of these crash victims were innocent and were simply minding their own business when the crash occurred.
