Jacksonville, FL (November 1, 2020) - A motorcyclist in Jacksonville was seriously injured in a crash that took place late Saturday. The incident happened around 11:15 p.m. on 103rd Street near Ken Road.

The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the accident scene. According to troopers, a sedan was traveling westbound behind a motorcycle on 103rd Street. According to troopers, the driver of the sedan failed to maintain a safe distance and collided with the rear end of the motorcycle. The motorcyclist, identified as a 64-year-old Jacksonville resident, sustained critical injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The driver of the sedan was not hurt in the accident. 

Troopers are still investigating the crash and charges are pending the outcome of the investigation. No additional information has been released at this time.

Florida motorcycle accidents frequently result in catastrophic outcomes for the victims. Well over 80% of motorcyclists who are involved in an accident will sustain some type of injury as a result of the crash. Many of these injuries can be serious and even life-threatening as motorcycles are not built to withstand the destructive force of a crash with a larger vehicle.
