Melbourne, FL (November 12, 2020) - A 62-year-old woman died in a moped crash on East University Boulevard in Melbourne. The crash took place around 9:22 p.m. on Tuesday, November 10th.
According to a police report, Cheryl Ann Dahlmann was riding a moped eastbound on University when she was hit by a vehicle that was attempting to make a left turn into a parking lot. Dahlmann suffered critical injuries and was taken to Holmes Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the car was not injured in the collision. Police are still investigating the collision at this time but neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to have played a role.
There is no further information available at this time.
Moped and motorcycle crashes take place in Florida each day. These smaller vehicles are not well-equipped to handle the force and impact of a collision with a larger vehicle. For that reason, moped and motorcycle riders are often seriously hurt or killed when they are involved in accidents on our roadways. Each year, more than 500 people are killed in moped and motorcycle crashes in Florida. Police will continue to investigate this accident.
Our condolences are with the family of Cheryl Ann Dahlmann.
