Charlotte County, FL (August 29, 2020) - A 52-year-old man from Punta Gorda suffered critical injuries after a hit-and-run in Charlotte County on Friday, August 28th. The crash was reported around 9:15 p.m. at the intersection of Taylor Road and Creekbridge Drive.
According to a report from the scene. the victim was standing in the grassy shoulder of Taylor Road when he was struck by a vehicle. The man was thrown several feet before landing on the western shoulder of the roadway. Rescue workers rushed to the scene and transported the man to a nearby hospital where he was listed in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. The vehicle, believed to be a 2003-2005 GMC C5500 pickup truck, fled the scene just after the crash took place.
The number of hit-and-run accidents in Florida continues to increase. Last year, there 105,000 of these accidents reported. We are now at a point where about 25% of all reportable accidents are hit-and-runs. Drivers who flee the scene of an accident often do so knowing that they have caused a crash with serious injuries.
