Fort Pierce, FL (August 20, 2020) - A 50-year-old man from Jensen Beach was killed in a crash that took place on the Florida's Turnpike on Wednesday, August 19th. The crash was reported in the southbound lanes of the roadway near Mile Marker 145.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a tractor-trailer and a pickup were traveling southbound when the two vehicles collided with one another. The driver of the tractor-trailer was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup driver was not hurt in the accident. No one involved in the accident has been involved at this time. The southbound lanes of the roadway remained closed for several hours as authorities worked to clear the scene and investigate the crash.
An investigation is ongoing at this time. There is no further information available.
Last year in Florida, more than 3,000 people tragically lost their lives in injury accidents that took place across our state. Each day, on average, eight people will die in traffic crashes. Each crash must be carefully investigated by authorities in order to determine which driver should be held responsible. Sadly, many innocent victims are killed or injured when they come into contact with a negligent driver.
We wish to extend our condolences to the victim's family following this tragic truck accident in Fort Pierce.
