Hobe Sound, FL (November 18, 2020) - A teenage girl suffered serious injuries in a crash that took place in Hobe Sound on Tuesday, November 17th. The crash happened around 8:50 p.m. on Florida's Turnpike near Mile Marker 120.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a passenger vehicle carrying two teenagers was traveling in the southbound lanes of the Turnpike when the driver lost control of the car. The vehicle left the roadway and rolled over before coming to rest. The car caught fire following the crash and became engulfed in flames. One of the occupants was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. There is no word on the condition of the other occupant. 

Motorists were advised to avoid the crash scene as police diverted traffic to a nearby roadway while investigators were at the scene. There is no further information available at this time. 

Last year, there were about 250,000 reported injury crashes in Florida. Rollover crashes are typically among the most severe and dangerous types of accidents that occur. These crashes normally take place at high speeds. During a rollover collision, vehicle occupants suffer serious injuries and they may be thrown from the vehicle, further increasing the risk of a negative outcome.
