Fort Myers, FL (August 12, 2020) - A man suffered serious injuries after he was hurt in a crash that took place in Fort Myers on Saturday, August 8th. The accident happened on Martin Luther King Boulevard near Ortiz Avenue.
According to reports, Joseph Madden was driving a truck on MLK when his vehicle broke down. Madden pulled over on the shoulder and exited the truck. As he was standing on the shoulder, he was hit by a motorcyclist. The force of the crash amputated Madden's leg. He also suffered broken ribs and a fracture in his spine. Madden was rushed to Lee Memorial Hospital where he is currently in critical condition and on a ventilator. The motorcyclist, who has not been identified, remained at the scene after the crash happened.
Police are investigating the accident at this time. There is no information on whether charges will be filed in connection with the accident.
A reportable traffic accident takes place in Florida about every 92 seconds. Sadly, innocent victims are seriously hurt or killed each day in crashes that are not their fault. These accidents often have life-changing consequences.
