Lakeland, FL (August 10, 2020) - A teenage girl was killed in a car accident that took place in Lakeland on Saturday, August 8th. The crash took place just before 11:00 p.m. on Kathleen Road near the intersection with West 2nd Street.

According to the Lakeland Police Department, a 16-year-old driver was operating a 2002 Chevy pickup truck northbound on Kathleen Road when he lost control of the truck. The vehicle left the roadway, struck a curb and then a utility pole before coming to rest on its roof. The driver and a 15-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries. A 16-year-old female passenger was killed in the crash. The Polk County Fire Rescue along with the Lakeland Fire Department responded to the scene to assist in administering medical treatment to the victims. 

Police are still investigating the crash. At this time, it appears as though speedy played a role in the accident. There is no word on whether the driver will face charges.

Car accidents in Florida take place about every 92 seconds. There is nothing more devastating and heartbreaking than the sudden loss of your loved one in a fatal accident. This is especially true when the crash is caused by a negligent driver. Unfortunately, hundreds of innocent victims are killed every year due to the actions of third parties.
