Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (November 30, 2020) - A 77-year-old man died after he was struck by a vehicle following a two-car crash in Ponte Vedra Beach. The crash took place around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, November 30th.

The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene on State Road A1A near Mickler Road. According to troopers, a truck was traveling northbound when it turned left onto Mickler and struck a sedan that was traveling southbound. The sedan then spun out of control, traveling onto a sidewalk and striking the bicyclist. The bicyclist died at the crash scene. while the pickup truck and sedan drivers sustained minor injuries. The deceased victim has not been identified at this time.

Traffic was backed up at the scene for nearly an hour as troopers investigated the crash. Motorists were advised to avoid the area. There is no word on potential charges at this time. An investigation is ongoing.

Florida ranks as the most dangerous state in the nation when it comes to bicycle crashes. Each year, more than 100 people on average are killed in Florida bicycle accidents. Bicyclists are very vulnerable to suffering serious injuries when they have been struck by a vehicle.
