Sarasota County, FL (December 2, 2020) - A pregnant woman from Port Charlotte was killed in a wrong-way crash on Sunday in Sarasota County. The crash occurred on River Road near Englewood.

According to police, 28-year-old Cortney Kauffman was traveling on River Road on her way to work when she was hit head-on by another vehicle. Kauffman and her unborn child were killed in the accident. It is not clear if the other driver was hurt in the accident. Officials are still investigating the crash. At this time, there is no word on what caused the accident to occur and the driver of the second car has not been identified.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing at this time. There is no further information available. 

Deadly car accidents in Florida take place about once every three hours or approximately eight times per day. When a fatal crash occurs, it must be carefully investigated by authorities in order to determine the cause and which driver should be held responsible for the collision. In many cases, innocent victims will lose their lives due to the careless and reckless actions of other drivers.
