Lee County, FL (December 5, 2020) - A woman from Fort Myers was killed in a crash that took place on US 41. The crash happened on Thursday, December 3rd around 12:45 p.m.
The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the accident scene. According to troopers, the deceased victim was traveling eastbound in a sedan on U.S. 41 when she attempted to make a right turn. As she turned, her car collided with a second vehicle driven by an 87-year-old woman. The 54-year-old woman was rushed to Lee Memorial Hospital where she died as a result of her injuries. The 87-year-old woman and a 60-year-old man were treated for minor injuries. There is no information on the identities of those involved.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing at this time. No further information is available.
According to statistics published by NHTSA, car accidents in Florida take place about once every 92 seconds. Unfortunately, more than 3,000 people were killed in crashes across our state in 2019. Many of these victims lost their lives due to the actions of negligent motorists on our roadways. Police will continue to investigate this accident to determine the cause.
