Gainesville, FL - Two Women Killed in Car Accident on SR 93

Gainesville, FL (August 2, 2020) - Two women are dead following a car accident in Gainesville on Friday, July 31st. The crash happened in the northbound lanes of State Road 93.

According to the Columbia County Fire Rescue, a 54-year-old man was traveling northbound on SR 93. For unknown reasons, the man's car drifted off the roadway to the right and struck a tree. There were two female passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash. One of the passengers was pronounced dead at the crash scene while a 30-year-old was airlifted to Shands Hospital where she eventually succumbed to her injuries on Saturday morning. The driver was also airlifted to Shands but there is no update on his condition at this time. No one involved in the accident has been identified by authorities.

An investigation is ongoing at this time. There are no further details available.
