Merritt Island, FL (July 30, 2020) - A 64-year-old man from Merritt Island was killed in a motorcycle crash on Thursday, July 30th. The crash happened on Courtenay Parkway near the intersection with Myrtice Avenue.
The Florida Highway Patrol was called to the scene shortly after the crash occurred. According to troopers, the motorcyclist was traveling on Courtney Parkway when the crash took place. At the same time, a car was also traveling on Courtenay Parkway in the opposite direction. The driver of the car tried to turn from Courtenay onto Myrtice Avenue but collided with the motorcycle. The motorcyclist was killed as a result of the crash. The driver of the car, a 78-year-old woman was not injured in the accident.
The deceased victim has not been identified at this time. There is no word on whether troopers intend to file charges as a result of the crash.
Approximately 3,000 motorists are killed in crashes that take place in our state each year. About 500 of these fatalities will be caused by motorcycle crashes. Motorcycle riders are at an increased risk of being seriously injured or killed when they are involved in crashes with larger vehicles.
