Fort Myers, FL (July 23, 2020) - One person was killed and five others were injured following a car accident in Fort Myers. The crash happened on Thursday, July 23rd on I-75.
The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene. According to troopers, an SUV was traveling southbound near Alico Road with six occupants. Suddenly, the car veered off the right side of the road and rolled over several times before coming to rest on the shoulder. A 35-year-old man from Labelle died at the scene. The driver, 33-year-old Tomas Cruz-Gomez suffered injuries. Cruz-Gomez was later arrested and charged with driving without a license causing death.
Four other passengers, ages 29 to 40, were taken to the hospital after suffering unknown injuries in the accident. No one else involved in the crash has been identified at this time.
