Lakeland, FL - Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run on Old Combee Road

Lakeland, FL (July 22, 2020) - The Polk County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a hit-and-run crash on Tuesday, July 21st. The crash happened just before 9:00 p.m. on Combee Road near the intersection with Old Combee Road.

Deputies, along with the Polk County Fire Rescue, arrived at the scene after the incident occurred. According to reports, a female victim was walking on Combee Road when she was hit by a green Ford Expedition. The Expedition is believed to be a 1997-2004 model vehicle. The vehicle fled the scene following the crash. Officials pronounced the unidentified female victim dead at the scene. She has been described as being between the age of 50 and 60. 

Deputies are still looking into the crash at this time. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Christello at 863-297-1100.

Florida hit-and-run crashes frequently have tragic endings for victims. These crashes account for approximately 25% of all reported accidents reported in our state every year. A hit-and-run is usually caused by the negligence of another driver. These drivers flee the crash scene knowing that they have caused serious accidents.
