Miami, FL (December 17, 2020) - A 40-year-old man from Miami was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Wednesday, December 16th. The accident took place around 12:30 a.m. on Northwest 14th Avenue near the intersection with 77th Terrace.

According to reports, a white Hyundai sedan and another car crashed into each other on Northwest 14th Avenue before the white sedan left the roadway and crashed into a chain-link fence outside of a home. The driver of the sedan, 40-year-old Edwards Durden, was killed in the collision. The driver of the other vehicle fled the scene before police could arrive. The other vehicle was identified as a black Kia SUV. Police are still looking for the driver at this time.

An investigation is ongoing. 

A Florida hit-and-run accident is often a devastating event for both victims and their families. While drivers are legally required to remain at the scene of an injury crash, many choose to ignore the law and flee before officers arrive. Hit-and-run accidents continue to be a major problem in Florida with about 20% of all reported Florida car accidents being classified as a hit-and-run collision.
