West Palm Beach, FL (July 18, 2020) - The two victims of a fatal crash in West Palm Beach have been identified by authorities. The crash took place on Friday, July 17th along North Congress Avenue.

Police responded to the scene in the 1800 block of the roadway around 4:20 p.m., near the Palm Beach Outlets. According to reports, 27-year-old Samuel Newby was traveling southbound on Congress in a 2001 Buick LeSabre. For unknown reasons, Newby lost control of his car and collided head-on with a Ford truck that was traveling northbound on Congress. Two passengers in Newby's vehicle, 30-year-old Donte Burney of West Palm Beach, and 29-year-old Reontre'yn Pounds of Riviera Beach died at the crash scene. The driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. 

Police are still investigating the crash at this time. There is no further information available and no word on whether charges are expected to be filed.

Fatal car accidents in Florida are reported approximately once every three hours. While most crashes in our state result in only minor injuries or property damage, some of them are far more serious and require complicated and extensive medical treatment. In the worst-case scenario, the crash results in a fatality. Certainly, there is nothing more devastating than the loss of a loved one to a Florida traffic accident. This is especially true when the accident was caused by the actions of another motorist.
