Fort Myers, FL - Three Children Hurt in Hit-and-Run on Orange River Boulevard

Fort Myers, FL (December 24, 2020) - Three children were injured in a hit-and-run crash that took place in Fort Myers on Wednesday, December 23rd. The accident happened just before 11:00 p.m. on Orange River Boulevard near the intersection with River Grove Lane.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a driver attempted to make an illegal U-turn on Orange River when his vehicle collided with a sedan. The driver of the sedan, a 23-year-old woman from Fort Myers, was traveling eastbound at the time of the crash. Three children, a 17-year-old girl, a 7-year-old girl, and a 2-year-old girl were passengers in the sedan, along with a 36-year-old woman. The children all suffered non-life-threatening injuries. 

The SUV driver fled the scene after the accident. Police are still searching for the driver at this time.

According to statistics, a reportable car accident takes place in Florida about once every 90 seconds. Hit-and-run crashes are a major component of car accidents in our state, making up about 20% of all total reported crashes.
