Hillsborough County, FL - 53-Year-Old Woman Killed in Hillsborough Avenue Pedestrian Crash

Hillsborough County, FL (July 6, 2020) - A 53-year-old woman died in a pedestrian crash in Hillsborough County on Sunday, July 5th. The crash took place around 4:15 a.m. on E. Hillsborough Avenue near Carmack Road.

The Florida Highway Patrol reports that the pedestrian, a woman from Tampa, was walking in the westbound lanes when she was struck by a pickup truck that was traveling on Hillsborough Avenue. The driver of the truck was identified as a 79-year-old man from Valrico. The female pedestrian, who has not been identified at this time, was rushed to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. The pickup driver was not hurt in the accident. 

There is no word at this time on whether any charges will be filed. An investigation is ongoing.

The numbers indicate that Florida is a dangerous place for pedestrians and that it is important to remember to take all precautions when walking on the roadway, especially in high-traffic and poorly-lit areas.
