Orange County, FL - Bicyclist Killed in Hit-and-Run on Pine Hills Rd.

Orange County, FL (January 15, 2021) - A 55-year-old bicyclist died after being involved in a hit-and-run crash near Orlando on Friday. The accident took place around 2:40 p.m. on Pine Hills Road near Balboa Road.

The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the crash scene. According to a report from troopers, a red '90s model Jeep Cherokee was traveling northbound on Pine Hils Road and was in the left turn lane. At the same time, the bicyclist was stopped on Balboa. The Jeep driver tried to make a left turn onto Balboa but crossed directly into the path of the bicycle. The two collided and the Jeep driver fled the scene. The bicyclist died at the crash site. 

Police are still looking for the driver at this time. There is no additional information available.

Last year in Florida, there were approximately 105,000 hit-and-run crashes in our state. Hit-and-run accidents in Florida account for about 25% of all total reported accidents. These crashes are becoming more and more common and, sadly, they often lead to serious injuries
