Orange County, FL (January 19, 2021) - Two people were killed following a car accident that took place in Orange County on Sunday, January 17th. The accident was reported around 3:15 a.m. on the John Young Parkway near State Road 408.
According to a report from the accident scene, a Dodge Challenger was traveling southbound on John Young Parkway when the driver attempted to make a turn. As the driver turned, the Challenger collided with a Chevy Malibu in the right-hand lane. The Challenger overturned and caught fire after the crash. The driver of the Malibu was critically injured while a 24-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman in the Challenger were killed in the accident. None of the victims have been identified at this time.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the FHP at 407-737-2213.
Fatal car accidents in Florida take place about once every three hours. According to statistics released by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, there were more than 3,100 fatal crashes reported in our state in 2019. This number has risen steadily over the past several years as Florida is becoming an increasingly dangerous place for motorists.
