A new texting and driving ban has been implemented in Florida to change the driving culture and decrease the number of vehicle accidents on our roads. These rules became effective July 1st.:

• Messaging while driving is now a primary offense. This means you could be pulled over and ticketed for typing into your phone (this includes checking email, Instagram, Facebook, SnapChat, etc.).

• You may text in a stationary vehicle. That is, when you are parked and not actually driving.

• Tickets begin with a base fee but could incir additional court fees and/or three points on your license.

• Penalties are enhanced at School and Work Zones. This will result in citations for using handheld devices. This rule will be observedbegining October 1, 2019.
